Toll Free Number and IVRS has very close relationship.  Big companies, apart from Teleocm companies, which have large customer base, normally have a toll free number as call center. In US, normally Toll Free number starts with 800, in India, it starts with 1800.

Recently I got an inquiry from a company in India, about Toll Free Number  and setting up a call center. After talking to the company, I realised, many people have either no idea or wrong impression about Toll Free Number. For Example,

a. Toll Free numbers are free for both the toll free number owner as well as caller.

b.  The procedure to have Toll Free Number must be very difficult. Lot of Red-Tapism involved.

c. One toll free number will have one line.

List of IVRS Companies

by Uttam Pegu on March 6, 2009

I have been thinking about building list of IVRS companies for long time now. There must be thousands of IVR Companies in the world! But if you type IVR Company or IVRS Companies, or IVRS Comapny in any search engines like Google, Yahoo. Live, check how many results they produce! Their listing of IVRS Companies will be really, really bad! I am just wondering, how come I could not search list of IVRS companies ?

Here is a list I have made after searching google for last one month! I would like to request all, please comment on this article if I have missed out your IVR Company, in this List of IVRS Companies! ( I am quite sure I must have missed out many IVRS Companies here)

1. Niche Tech Services (P) Ltd.
2. MicroStrategy, Inc.
3. IV Telecom

IVRS and CRBT

by Uttam Pegu on March 4, 2009

I keep getting various questions about CRBT ( Caller Ringback Tone) and IVRS, their relation. My answer is CRBT is essentially an application that uses IVRS and smart call routing.
This CRBT is marketed by different names by different Mobile Operators! The list might be interesting to publish! Most commonly used in India are, Hello Tunes, Caller Tunes, Dialer Tune etc.

What is CRBT?
When person A calls person B, if person B is available, then person A hears a ringback tone! Now CRBT replaces that ringback tone with a selectable music. So, now, a person A dials person B, person A gets to hear a music, person B has selected as his CRBT Tone. Person B has also option for playing a particular music according to caller ID. For example I can set music “Welcome to the Hotel California” when my friend calls me while I can record a message, “Testing IVR Application” which will be played when ever my boss calls me.

CRBT can be implemented various ways! The easiest way is using SS7 call routing and IVRS. ( This is not a technical guide to start a CRBT Service, but just logical explanation. For technical solution, contact me separately or any other CRBT Solution provider.)

DTMF and Pulse Dialing

by Uttam Pegu on February 26, 2009

I had promised before that I would write about DTMF and pulse dialing in future. Finally I have decided to write about them!

This article may be ignored by IVR professionals as they must be quite bored with these two terminologies! But many users who have to listen to announcements like “If you are in pulse mode, then please come to Tone mode by pressing # ( Hash), thank you”, for them it might be useful!

Many telephone Instruments/Telephone Handsets has a button on either bottom-side of it or side of it which says P And T on either side. It means Pulse or Tone. Depending on the position of that button, your telephone instrument will generate either pulses or DTMF tones on pressing a key on the keypad.

STEPS FOR DEPLOYING IVRS

by Uttam Pegu on February 19, 2009

I keep getting requirement from many customers to deploy IVR in 2 days time after they have bought the CTI card.

Is it possible to deploy IVR in 2 days ? According to me, Impossible unless you have the following assets in place:

1. Voice Artist both male and female and for at least three language if the IVR is to be deployed in India. ( In India, normally IVR has to be in three languages, 1. English 2. Hindi and 3. Any one of the 17 Languages called MIL ( Modern Indian Language)

2. A Studio with sound recordists available 24 hours.

3. Script Writer.

4. Call Flow designer.

5. Coder who uses either C++ or Any third Party development tools.

OUTBOUND IVRS

by Uttam Pegu on February 18, 2009

Presently, IVRS has been thought mainly as a system to handle Incoming voice calls. But recently, IVRS is explosively growing as an Outbound Solution too.

A Typical Flow of outbound IVR is :

1. IVR Application picks up a phone number from database.

2. Makes the outbound calls

3. Announces the programmed voice file as soon as the dialed party picks the phone.

4. Waits for response if any , from the dialed party.

5. Disconnects and picks up the next number from database.
